The Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit is continuing to invest in the environment and is again joining the KiSS programme (Keep it Shiny & Sustainable), launched by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) to reduce the environmental impact generated during the Grand Prix events of the MotoGP™ World Championship.
The Circuit has entered into a firm commitment towards the environment and has carried ISO 14001-2004 Environmental Management certification since 2008. It received the 2012 “FIM Environmental Award” thanks to the “Green Meeting Point” project that promotes sustainable initiatives in the motor sports world by minimizing the environmental and territorial impact of mobility, as is the case with KiSS Barcelona.
The fact that KiSS Barcelona is being organised for the second year running, it creates continuity in the promotion of good environmental practices among the fans during the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP™ (12-14 June).
KiSS Barcelona will have a Stand (located behind the N Stand) demonstrating the progress made by motorcycling in terms of environmental protection and encouraging people to adopt good practices during the Grand Prix.
Various awareness-raising actions will be carried out with the support of MotoGP™ champion and FIM Environmental Ambassador Marc Márquez. They include the following:
> Kiss Barcelona Stand: situated behind the N Stand, this will be an environmental education point focusing on sustainable mobility. With the cooperation of the Motorcycle Museum, there will be an exhibition of historic motorcycles showing the development of motorcycles in terms of environmental protection. Visitors will be able to view three models from different years from the early years up to the middle of the last century: FN, Mod. T, 300cc (1920); ARIEL Colt, 250cc (1932); y NSU Lux, 198cc (1956).
> KISS Barcelona Bag: KiSS Barcelona bags made of organic materials will be distributed to the public at the circuit to encourage them to respect the environment and reduce the environmental impact of the Grand Prix.
> "Stop Food Waste": to encourage people to reduce the volume of rubbish and consequently the environmental impact of food production, the restaurants and food outlets managed by Aramark in the public areas will be displaying posters with the slogan "Stop Food Waste". According to the FAO, 1.3 billion tons of food are wasted every year.
> Re-usable glass: the Aramark catering outlets will also distribute re-usable glasses to customers to promote the “3 R’s” (reduce, re-use, recycle) message.
> #KISSBarcelona contest: spectators will be able to take part in a photo contest and all participants will enter a prize draw for a paddock pass for two people with VIP access to the FIM Hospitality truck for the 2016 Grand Prix at the Circuit. To take part, spectators will have to take a selfie at the KiSS Barcelona Stand at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit and post it on social media with the hashtag #KiSSBarcelona. More information will be available on the official Instagram account of the Circuit (@circuitdebcncat) from Thursday 11 June.
> Visit by schoolchildren to Marc Márquez’s box: pupils of two Montmeló schools will take part in a drawing competition on the theme of the environment and ten of them will win the chance to visit Marc Márquez in his box on Monday 15 June after the end of the practice for the MotoGP™. The pupils will have the chance to meet the rider and talk to him about the environment.
> Promotion of sustainable mobility to attend the Gran Premio: various communication channels will be used to vehicle messages about the use of public transport such as train or bus. The Circuit will advise people to optimise the use of private vehicles if they do use private motorcycles or cars to travel to the event.
The KiSS Barcelona project, in which rider and FIM Environmental Ambassador Marc Márquez will be taking an active part, has received the support of the Motorcycle Museum and the companies Valoriza and Aramark as well as the consultancies SBA and ISR.
