Desafio Ruta 40
FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship, round 4
August 25-31, 2018
Less than a week since the finish of the Atacama Rally in Chile, action resumes in the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship with Desafio Ruta 40 in Argentina.
Victory for Kevin Benavides (Honda) in Chile changed the positions in the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship and the Argentine is now tied for the series lead with Chilean rider Pablo Quintanilla (Husqvarna).
Tomorrow (Saturday, August 25) the fourth round gets underway with administrative and technical checks at San Miguel de Tucumán in northern Argentina.
The Desafio Ruta 40 will run for five stages between Tucumán and San Juan and riders will tackle 1,421km of selective sections. It is a sure thing that the fight between the two championship protagonists will be fascinating…
While crossing the border between Chile and Argentina, the Honda truck suffered a little delay because of customs complications although the team’s four registered riders are already in Tucumán: Kevin Benavides (winner of the Atacama Rally), Paulo Gonçalves, Ricky Brabec and a "Blue" - Frenchman Mathias Bellino – a double Enduro World Champion, who will discover the cross-country discipline.
Pablo Quintanilla finds himself alone in the Husqvarna team. At KTM, meanwhile, the great absentee will be Sam Sunderland, who broke a metatarsal in Chile. Matthias Walkner, Toby Price and the young Luciano Benavides will represent the Austrian manufacturer.
Sherco is not officially present, but Lorenzo Santolino will run under the colours of the French brand with the X-Raid team. To close the list of registered FIM World Championship riders, we find the Ecuadorian Juan Puga (KTM).
In the quad category, Nicolas Cavigliosso (Yamaha) intends to consolidate his position with a second consecutive victory after the recent win at the Atacama Rally. He will still have to beat the Russian rider Alexandr Maksimov (Yamaha), Rafal Sonik (Yamaha), Nicolas Robledo (Yamaha), Pablo Copetti (Yamaha) and Ricardo Amaya (Can-Am).
