Spanish rider Alejandro De La Cruz (KAWASAKI) won in the 600cc and Finnish rider Ulla Kulju (HONDA) in the Women's category in front of a huge crowd in the first round of the International Bridgestone Handy Race held on Saturday 19 May at Le Mans Bugatti circuit ahead of the HJC Helmets Grand Prix de France.
Emiliano Magaloti (ITA-BMW) & Peter Rohr (AUT-BMW) completed the podium of the 1000cc category and Talan Skeels-Pigins (GBR-SUZUKI) and Benoit Thibal (FRA-YAMAHA) took second and third in the 600cc class
"It's fantastic! I can’t find the words to express what I feel after this victory in front of the public of Le Mans. It's amazing for us to be here during the weekend of the Grand Prix de France and to see ourselves on TV "said Daniele Barbero. "I was a little destabilised after Stéphane Paulus crashed (FRA-SUZUKI) but it's all about racing and I'm happy to win this race for the second time. My opponents are getting faster and I guess it will be harder and harder for me to keep the lead in the future."
Emiliano Malagoli set the lap record of 1'47.912 after a good fight with Peter Rohr, who clocked up the top speed of 256.5 km / h.
Damiano Zamano, FIM Programmes Director, explains that after this wonderful race weekend the two associations Handi Free Riders and Diversamente Disabili will visit the FIM headquarters next Tuesday for a meeting of a working group set up by the FIM and bringing together members of the sports, technical and medical commissions. The working group will be tasked with drawing up a set of regulations to serve as a framework for the future development of the International Bridgestone Handy Race.
See you on 25 and 26 August at the Mugello circuit in Italy for the second round of the 2018 Championship which will take place during the FMI Cup.
