When unforeseen circumstances forced the FIM to change venue for the classic Touring Event Motocamp, it was an opportunity for the average motorcycle rider in Germany to take up the challenge.
In fact, instead of the Motocamp in Russia, around 200 participants, including helpers, met on the Island of Poel, situated north of the German “Hansestadt” Wismar.
In only a very few months the German Motorcycle Federation, DMV and it’s vice-president Bernd Schmidt; together with FIM/CTL member from Germany, Michael Weiss and his wife Marina, organized the Motocamp. This was done with the valuable assistance of longtime FIM Touring rider Peter Bruhn, who lives on Poel. This group obtained in a very few days the full support of the municipality of Poel and the voluntary Firebrigade of the island. These people knew exactly where to find help, support and other essential materials.
Organising the Motocamp the same week, as the original 2015 event, the possible participants didn’t have to change holiday plans and 172 entered the event from 16 countries.
The participants went on a tour into Wismar and the traditional national parade was around the island and ended at the small fishing harbour.
All the offerings to the participants at the Motocamp were well received which was verified by the questionnaire which was collected after the event.
The organizer of the 2016 Motocamp in Ifrane in Morocco was at Poel as well, and he distributed information for this event.
