The FIM Speedway Under 21 World Championship continues to grow in stature and this year will be contested over seven rounds. For the first time a Track Racing World Championship will visit South America with the final two meetings being staged at the Bahia Blanca track in Argentina in November.
The qualification meetings have now been completed and the top 14 riders, supplemented by 2 Wild Cards will compete in each round. The qualifiers are:
Vaclav Mílík/ACCR/Czech Republic
Ritchie Worrall/ACU/Great Britain
Michael Jepsen Jensen/DMU/Denmark
Mikkel Bech Jensen/DMU/Denmark
Poland, with seven qualifiers have the largest representation and would appear to have the strongest chance of producing the winner. Current champion Janowski is riding well for Tarnow in the Polish Extraleague but the talented Pawlicki brothers and Patryk Dudek are expected to be strong contenders. Zmarzlik may be relatively inexperienced but can rise to the big occasion as demonstrated by his third place in the recent Polish Grand Prix in Gorzow.
Michael Jepsen Jensen is producing good performances at the highest level and must be the pick of the Danish contingent but his namesake Mikkel not yet 18 and in only his third season at senior level will be out to impress.
Of the remainder, Vaclav Milik from Pardubice is the sole representative of the Czech Republic and Sam Masters will be flying the Australian flag for the first time in this competition. Britain’s Ritchie Worral’s superb form might have made him one of the favourites but a broken leg looks likely to rule him out of the early rounds at least. Oleksandr Loktaev has previous experience in this competition, and will have been disappointed in his 10th place finish in 2011
The series opens in Italy on July 21st and the draw for this meeting will be published here shortly.
