French UFO-Racing team rider Milko Potisek got the win in today’s qualifying race ahead of Pellicari’s Swiss rider Julien Bill on what was a very hot day at the Vantaa-Speedway venue in Finland.
For the entire qualifying race Potisek couldn’t get away from Bill who just spent the whole moto studying where to pass the French rider. The two Honda mounted riders were on the same second for the whole 14 laps to maybe some displease of the Finnish crowd who expect to see wins from their local hero, Antti Pyrhonen. The Finn only managed to start in sixth position recovering afterwards until fourth place after being the second fastest on pre-qualifying.
Third place went to Tom Söderström, the same position he got during time practice. The Swedish rider is definitely showing the experience acquired in the world stage and will be up for the podium tomorrow. KTM rider Marco Maddii was third at the start and had to hold one of the fastest Latvian riders, Lauris Freibergs, right behind him.
Martin Michek finished in seventh position after a bad start in tenth. The R.S.C. Italia Corse Orion RS Petrol team rider confessed in the end that the heat is not the best environment for Czech riders and Motoman’s Martin Zerava might as well agree with him as he too ended up on the same ninth position he had at the start.
The third fastest in time practice, Swedish rider Kim Lindstrom finished eight but after a bad start from twelfth position. Toni Eriksson was the second best Finn closing the top-ten, he who was second overall in last year’s race.
Another national rider at the start is former World Enduro champion Samuli Aro who came to practice his MX skills with the MX3 boys as he lives literally thirty minutes from the Vantaa track and has been competing on the MX1 Finnish championship.
“The pre-qualifying was difficult for me and I ended up in eighth but then on the race I did the holeshot and led it until the finish. It was hard to find lines and Julien Bill was behind me all the time so I had to keep pushing. Whoever doesn’t make mistakes tomorrow is going to win.”
“I was here in 2009 and was third. It’s good to be here with the MX3, it’s much friendlier than the MX1 although I think on going back next year. I hope to make top-three but a lot can happen, one never knows. They’re fast but not unbeatable, will have to see tomorrow …”
