Yamaha Motor Racing Srl raises awareness for environmental and social sustainability by supporting the KiSS Mugello programme, staged at the sixth round of the 2017 MotoGP World Championship, for the fifth year in a row.
The Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team will be actively taking part in the fifth edition of the KiSS Mugello project, an environmental and social sustainability programme aimed at keeping the Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix clean during the upcoming MotoGP round this weekend.
The KiSS project stands for “Keep it Shiny and Sustainable” and was first held in 2013 in Mugello, which was the first circuit worldwide to obtain the recognition of “Achievement of Excellence”, the highest level of accreditation in the environmental sustainability programme launched by FIA (Federation Internationale de l‘Automobile).
KiSS Mugello is promoted by Mugello Circuit, FMI (Italian Motorcycling Federation) and FIM (International Motorcycling Federation), Dorna (the Spanish company holding the rights for the World Motorcycling Championship) and IRTA (The International Road Racing Teams Association) as well as Yamaha Motor Racing Srl, which has been an Official Supporter since the start of the programme.
With its focus on environmental protection and respect for the beauty of the Tuscan hills, the KiSS project aims to reduce the environmental impact of the event at Mugello through waste sorting and recycling efforts by fans and spectators. In 2017, 20,000 recycling kits will be distributed to separately collect waste batteries, used cooking oil and used motor oil. Furthermore, drinking water fountains will be placed across the circuit, allowing the reuse of plastic bottles. Finally, awareness on sustainable mobility is raised through a communication programme, promoting collective and public transport, carpooling and bikes.
Last year, the KiSS Mugello project resulted in 40% of waste being sorted. This year the goal is to surpass this benchmark.
Movistar Yamaha MotoGP will contribute to this year‘s events by taking part in the special Pit Walk for boys and girls with disabilities, selected by local non-profit organisations. The children will get the opportunity to visit the team‘s pit box.
Another social initiative that Yamaha plays an active role in is the collection of food surplus from the team's hospitality area, to reduce food waste. The collected food will be donated to local non-profit organisations.
Fans can also do their bit to promote environmental and social sustainability by following the dedicated social media channels on Twitter and Facebook and by using the hashtags #kissmugello and #kissmugello5years on social media.
Moreover, in cooperation with the Italian National Consortia (a non-profit organisation aimed at the recovery and recycling of packaging), the separate waste collection carried out by fans and spectators over the race weekend will be linked up with a fundraising initiative, the money raised will go to support a project by the Fondazione Ospedale Pediatrico Meyer of Florence.
More information can be found on the official website: www.kissmugello.com. Additionally, the fans and spectators can visit the info-desks placed in the paddock area and audience areas. The KiSS Mugello staff will provide more information on this year‘s initiatives.
YAMAHA MOTOR RACING, GENERAL MANAGER
Yamaha will be promoting the KiSS project for the fifth year in a row, together with FIM, Circuito del Mugello, Dorna and IRTA. The last four years the entire team always stayed aware of its social sustainability and environmental footprint and is trying to reduce waste as much as possible. We participate in the KiSS programme to spread the message to the fans as well as the racing industry on the importance of these topics. We are proud of the work and the great successes of the past editions, and we‘re hoping to raise the benchmark again this year.
