Vehicle electronics are developing fast in this new age of smart phones and similar technology. Soon cars will be able to “talk” to other vehicles – including motorcycles! This has great potential to reduce the number of collisions at road junctions where often drivers pull out in front of a motorcyclist.
These systems are part of ITS – Intelligent Transport Systems. When they start to talk to each other they are called C-ITS, “connected ITS.” FIM has long urged those manufacturers who produce bikes and cars (BMW and Honda being examples) to ensure their new technology is standardised. So we were delighted to hear that this is what BMW, Yamaha and Honda have agreed to do. Their announcement makes it clear that the door is open to other companies.
