FIM Speedway Youth Gold Trophy 85cc – Rybnik, Poland 28th and 29th July 2018
The Youth Programme of the FIM Track Racing Commission continues this week with the Gold Trophy 85cc event in Rybnik, Poland.
This competition is limited by engine capacity and is for young riders between the ages of 12 to 15 years. 32 competitors from 8 countries and nominated by their federations will compete over two days in two semi-finals on Saturday to qualify for the Final on Sunday.
Scandinavia, long time pioneers of racing at this level, run regular league and international meetings and this is reflected in their entries to this event. Denmark lead the list with 9 riders, Sweden have 8 competitors and Norway 4. Poland continue to produce fresh talent at youth level and have 5 riders with Australia sending two representatives from the other side of the world.
This will be a busy time for riders, officials and organisers but the enthusiasm of all involved is infectious. There is no prize money or travel expenses and the riders depend on the support of their federation as well as parents, friends and sponsors. For some this could be the start of a career in track racing and, for one, a trophy as a reminder of a memorable weekend.
FIM Officials for this meeting are both from the Czech Republic with Petr Moravec the Jury President and Pavel Kubes Referee. The first semi-final will start at 14.00 on Saturday afternoon with the second at 17.00. Sunday’s Final is at 14.00.
