After seeing what it looked like an almost guaranteed victory last week in Megalopolis being literally washed away in the last laps and offered to his archrival Swiss rider Julien Bill, Milko Potisek planned to fight back and he surely did so by starting the weekend imposing himself on the qualifying race in the Bulgarian circuit.
With temperatures around 15°C, Troyan saw what might well be a taster of tomorrow’s races. Already during free and pre-qualifying practice the R.S.C. Italia Corse Orion RS Petrol team rider Martin Michek on the KTM had joined the Potisek-Bill duo going below the 34 second mark. These three went out to be the fastest during the whole day leaving a significant gap for the rest of the pack, all with their best speeds seriously approaching 60km/hour.
Potisek gets to choose the best spot on the starting grid tomorrow with his win on the qualifying moto followed by Pellicari Team’s Julien Bill, a little more than a second behind after being glued to the French rider for most of the race. Michek ended up leaving these two when he lost the pace with a backmarker finishing third.
Motoman’s Martin Zerava, who was coming from sixth, found his way to pass Saso Kragelj and Antti Pyrhonen who were involved in an exciting battle for some laps ended up fifth and sixth respectively. Best home rider Nikolay Kumanov got the 13th place on the grid.
Milko Potisek: “It was hard to pull away and get a decent gap as I had a lot of slower riders to pass, hope to get a good result tomorrow.”
Julien Bill: ”The track has pretty much just one line, really fast and so it’s very difficult to pass. I used all my tear-offs before half of the moto because of the dirt.”
Martin Michek: ”I was third after the start and I tried to follow them for about 15 minutes but then I had to pass some slower riders and after that I lost them. I got a good place on the gate; I think it’s possible to go top-three.”
