A unique event straddling the Atlantic coast of France and Spain, Wheels and Waves has grown its fan base from a few hundred to several thousand.
At the crossroads of surfing, skating and motorcycling with music and art thrown in, Wheels and Waves was created by a motorcycle club in Toulouse, where the members often went to Biarritz to surf. They also loved classic motorcycles and café racers.
In 2009, the Southsiders Motorcycle Club with its six members organised the first Wheels and Waves event, attracting maybe a couple of hundred participants.
Over the years, more and more people turned out for this unusual event and now the whole area from Biarritz to the west of San Sebastian in Spain plays host to around 20’000 fans of surfing, music, skate-boarding and motorcycling. Between 13 and 17 June the whole area becomes a giant playground offering a wide range of activities.
The motorcycling part mostly consists of friendly “competition” in flat track, hill climbing or just parading on very special vehicles. And this year there is a special visit by Trial rider Julien Dupont who is putting on a show for the occasion.
Just go to the website www.wheels-and-waves.com or visit their Facebook page and see for yourself. Maybe you will be tempted to go and feel the special vibe.
As a motorcycling advocate FIM is also monitoring events which is giving motorcycling a positive image and can also support events aimed at promoting fun and friendly leisure motorcycling together with other activities.
If you are a motorcyclist and you are interested in participating in these events or others like it, please contact your national FIM member federation or its partner for touring activities. You can also obtain more information on FIM Touring on Facebook.
