Title holder Marco Simoncelli took his first FIM 250cc World Championship win of the season with victory at a wet Le Mans circuit in France.
The Metis Gilera rider won the race by 18 seconds ahead of the Valencia CF Honda of Hector Faubel who finished on the podium in a 250cc race for the first time.
Simoncelli's team-mate Roberto Locatelli made his first visit to the rostrum since 2006 as he finished third.
Fourth place went to Alvaro Bautista on the Mapfre Aspar Aprilia who moved to the top of the world championship points standings by one point from previous leader Hiroshi Aoyama who could only finish eighth on the Scot Racing Honda.
Fifth went to Thailand's Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda) which is the best result of his career, with Aoyama's team-mate Raffaele de Rosa coming home in sixth.
Lukas Pesek (Auto Kelly Aprilia) was seventh, with Aoyama, Imre Toth (Team Toth Aprilia) ninth and Vladimir Leonov (Viessmann Kiefer Racing Aprilia) completing the top 10.
