After five Grand Prix and fifteen heats, the 2016 Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship will reach its pinnacle this Saturday, March 19th in the bullring of Las Rozas in Madrid (Spain) for the grand finale!
For the first time in the short history of the discipline, the FIM has entrusted the company "The 5 Elements" under the guidance of the RFME, the daunting task of hosting and organising the final in just two months to replace the Italian round scheduled in Milano last January.Contacted by Alain BLANCHARD (ABC Communication), Fran RICO and the team of "The 5 Elements", have decided to face the challenge that was offered to them and organise a SuperEnduro round in just two months. They chose the bullring of Las Rozas near Madrid to host the sixth and final round of SEWC. This "Plaza de Toros", established in May 2011, has already become one of the most important bullfighting arenas in Madrid and has also welcomed a round of the Spanish SuperEnduro Cup.
With the experience, desire and professionalism of Fran RICO and his team, the 4000 seats will be filled making this 2016 final a magnificent spectacle, seven years after the last SuperEnduro final in Madrid which saw Ivan CERVANTES (ESP - KTM) win the title!
WALKER, HAAKER or WEBB?
Although soccer and bullfighting are part of the life of Madrid, many are big fans of motorcycling. The 4000 seats of the covered bullring of Las Rozas, a small residential city located on the outskirts of Madrid, should definitely be occupied in an atmosphere of Feria where WEBB, WALKER and HAAKER will look to impress the public in this final confrontation.
The Grand Prix of Czech Republic completely reshuffled the Prestige class. Jonny WALKER (GB - KTM) is still leader, but due to his injury last weekend in Prague is now only one point ahead of Colton HAAKER (USA - Husqvarna).HAAKER took full advantage of the woes of his two rivals to pocket his first win of the series and with it comes fully back into the title race. For his part, Cody WEBB (USA-KTM), was very unhappy in last heat of the Czech Republic GP but has nonetheless taken a few points on WALKER and is just 7 points behind the Brit. Will WALKER resist until the end, despite his physical handicap? Will WEBB succeed in winning SuperEnduro after his US Endurocross title? Or can HAAKER steal the title from his two rivals? After more than six years of unchallenged domination of Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL - KTM), the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship will therefore provide a new champion in a few hours.
GOMEZ, ROBERT and BLAZUSIAK as troublemakers?
Starting with the home crowd favourite, Alfredo GOMEZ (KTM) will want to shine in front of his public and should be a top contender for the podium as is Taylor ROBERT (USA - KTM), prominent in Prague (first podium) and outgoing champion Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL - KTM), who returns to his best after injury.
Add to that, Ty TREMAINE (USA - KTM), Spaniard Mario ROMAN (Husqvarna), Kevin ROOKSTOOL (USA - Sherco) and Andreas LINUSSON (S - KTM) all eyeing success. Moreover, Spaniards Eloi SALSENCH (Beta), Joan Pau SEGURA (KTM), Xavi LEON (Husqvarna) and Lorenzo SANTOLINO (Sherco), who replaces Dani GIBERT (E - Sherco) in Grading List, will want to show their best.
LETTENBICHLER - Champion Elect
In the Junior category, there is less suspense. Unless disaster strikes, Manuel LETTENBICHLER (D - KTM) should be crowned champion. But the category remains very interesting. Luis OLIVEIRA (P - Yamaha), is almost guaranteed to finish runner-up, Benjamin HERRERA (CL - TM), unlucky in the Czech Republic, Tim APOLLE (D - Husqvarna), who wants to consolidate his position on the podium, and the wildcard Wade YOUNG (RSA - Sherco) will want to shine. Lee SEALEY (GB - Yamaha), Mathias MARTINSEN (NOR - KTM), William HOARE (GB - Sherco) and Norbert ZSIGOVITS (H - KTM) will want an impressive end to a very encouraging debut SuperEnduro season.
With three riders separated by just 7 points for the world title, the stage is set for a thrilling end to the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship in Las Rozas, Madrid on Saturday March 19.
