France welcomes champions in waiting

11/09/09 - 20:17

The remote, but massive French ski resort of Isola 2000, located some ninety kilometres North of the city of Nice has the honour of bringing to a close the 2009 SPEA FIM Trial World Championship and hosting the penultimate event in the 2009 FIM Women’s Trial World Championship. The Repsol Montesa HRC pairing of Toni Bou and Laia Sanz are both within touching distance of clinching their respective titles. Bou needs just a single point to secure his third outdoor crown in a row, whilst a win for Sanz would guarantee her an incredible ninth Women’s World championship.

This is the second weekend on the road for the World trials tour, with the French GP sandwiched between last week’s trial in Spain and next weekend’s Trial des Nations in Italy. The mountains that surround the resort feature some of the best trials terrain seen anywhere in the World, and have the potential to serve up two days of great competition. Recently crowned European champion Loris Gubian – Gas Gas heads a large contingent of home riders who will all be looking for glory in front of their own fans. A good showing by Tanguy Mottin – Gas Gas in the Youth class could see him snatch third spot in the final standings, which would cap a fantastic season for the French youngster.
