Haslam backed as contender in 2010

Leon Haslam could be a real contender for the 2010 FIM Superbike World Championship now he is on a factory Suzuki after joining the Alstare team.

Former racer James Whitham has backed Haslam to shine in 2010 after performing well on the Stiggy Honda this season.

Whitham told www.worldsbk.com: "I think he really needs a factory bike to move on to the next level and he should have one of the best ones out there next year.

"I think Leon is that good right now. Two years ago I may not have said that, because I thought he might not get much better. But this year has been brilliant.

"What has surprised me is how hard he has been willing to push."
