Pitt joins Reitwagen team

17/12/09 - 13:47

Two-time FIM World Supersport champion Andrew Pitt is to step back up to the World Superbike Championship next season with the Reitwagen Motorsport BMW team.

The 33-year-old Australian has raced in World Supersport since he lost his ride with the ill-fated Ilmor MotoGP project, which pulled out of racing following the 2007 Qatar Grand Prix at Losail. He will be joined in the team's rider line-up by Austrian Roland Resch.

The team, preparing for their first season at World Championship level, will be using customer versions of the BMW's S1000RR.

They have also confirmed that Johan Stigefelt, boss of the Stiggy Honda team that withdrew from the series last week, has joined them as tactical director.

Reitwagen have also confirmed that several other members of Stiggy Racing will be taking up roles with the team.
