New Championship erupts

17/04/10 - 18:43

The small coastal town of Baiona in the North West corner of Spain will bring the 2010 SPEA FIM Trial World Championship to life this coming Sunday, as the sixty three entrants from across the globe contest round one of the eight event series. Fresh from his Indoor success Toni Bou – Repsol Montesa will be at his home GP with some great memories of this region.

Back in 2006, not so far away in the town of Nigran, Bou won his first ever SPEA FIM Trial World Championship event as a relatively unknown youngster. Four years on and Toni is dominating the sport and looking likely to go on to beat the records set by Jordi Tarres and Dougie Lampkin - Beta.

The compact course around the small rocky peninsula is the ideal terrain for Bou to stamp early authority on the 2010 campaign, but will have to withstand the challenge of not least his compatriots. Albert Cabestany – Sherco, Adam Raga – Gas Gas and Jeroni Fajardo – Beta will also all be looking for home glory, in front of the foreign contenders in the form of Takahisa Fujinami – Repsol Montesa and James Dabill – Gas Gas to mention but two.

With the World Pro riders headlining the event, no one should forget the battles that are sure to rage in both the Youth and Junior categories. Like the volcano in Iceland, the new championship is ready to erupt.
