A total of fifty-nine riders over came the Europe wide air travel ban to be a part of the opening Spanish Grand Prix, which marked the start of the 2010 SPEA FIM Trial World Championship. There were nineteen starters in the SPEA FIM Youth Trial World Cup class, twenty seven in the SPEA FIM Junior Trial World Cup category and thirteen in the main World Pro division. Baiona, Spain signaled the beginning of an eight round series that will venture as far a field as Japan, before returning to Europe for the finale in the Czech Republic come early September.
As with the 2010 SPEA FIM Indoor Trial World Championship, the Outdoor series has introduced new rules to create a more dynamic campaign. Making the best riders start at the front of each of the respective classes should provide a more even opportunity for all the riders, especially those looking to break into the established ranks. This plus the introduction of a reduced time allowance in each section, where the rider is encouraged to make more direct progress through each hazard, will hopefully create closely fought battles for the title in each of the three classes.
Whilst Spain proved a tough opener to the series, all eyes are now firmly focused on the challenge that the next round in Portugal will bring the riders as they adapt to these new and exciting conditions.
