Chareyre closer to S1 World Title

28/11/10 - 01:50

Current Championship leader Thomas Chareyre started the weekend leading the time practice in front of Mauno Hermunen, Adrien Chareyre and Ivan Lazzarini, and they will all take part in tomorrow’s Superpole. Davide Gozzini was fifth and he will start from the second row of the grid.

747 Motorsport TM Racing Factory’s Thomas Chareyre was the fastest in today’s time practice but second classified Hermunen was just a tenth of a second slower than the French. Thomas Chareyre will take part in tomorrow’s Superpole to choose the best spot in the starting grid and do his best to achieve his maiden World Title.

Husqvarna CH Racing’s Hermunen, who won the previous Grand Prix in Bulgaria, led the time practice when there were still 23 minutes to go. However, current red plate holder Thomas Chareyre clinched the best lap time of the session some minutes after and Hermunen could not improve the lap time of the French.

Other Husqvarna CH Racing rider Adrien Chareyre did a superb time practice and tomorrow he will take part in his second Superpole of the season. The French is seventh in the point standings but he expects to finish at least among the top five riders of the Championship.

Fourth was HM Honda Racing’s Lazzarini, who seems to be fully fit again for tomorrow’s races. The Italian struggled a little bit in the last two Grand Prix’s, but he might finish on the podium this weekend, as he did in Sankt Wendel, and improve his fifth position in the Championship.

747 Motorsport TM Racing Factory’s Gozzini will start from the second row of the grid tomorrow as he could not enter the Superpole. The Italian is determined to achieve his maiden World Title this weekend in Salou, but his start in the first race might be crucial for the outcome of the Championship.

Van Den Bosch, who is third in the Championship 35 points away from the two leaders, struggled the whole day with the settings of his Aprilia machine. During the time practice, the multiple World Champion started improving his time laps when there were just three minutes to go and the French could only finish tenth.

Local rider Cucharrera, who is the 2010 SuperMoto Spanish Champion, got a consistent 12th position during the time practice.

Hiemer will not take part in the Catalan Grand Prix as he is still recovering from a hip injury suffered during the FIM SuperMoto of Nations in Cahors, France. The German is currently sixth in the point standings but he might lose such position after tomorrow’s races.
