In 2010 the FIM made the first award of the new prize for outstanding work in the field of road safety to the AIP Foundation led by Greig Craft. On 8 February Greig Craft visited the FIM headquarters in Switzerland to hold further discussions with FIM CEO Guy Maitre on the worldwide helmet campaign.
Under the banner of the "Global helmet Vaccine Initiative" the work done so successfully in Vietnam in cutting death and injury amongst riders and passengers of powered two-wheelers is being replicated in many other countries. CEO Guy Maitre commented,
" After the excitement of the award ceremony at the FIM Gala last year it was good to have the opportunity to talk with Greig and learn more about this work. We will continue to explore ways in which we can use the impact of our sport to spread the message that every rider and every passenger, adult or child, should be equipped with a safety helmet."
The Global Helmet Vaccine Initiative is a key part of the United Nations "Decade of Action on Road Safety" 2011-2020 aimed at cutting the annual death toll from its present level of 1.3 million deaths per year.
