While Taddy Blazusiak's three convincing victories at the opening round of the 2012 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship were anything but unexpected, and with many predicting a strong showing from overall runner-up Joakim Ljunggren, the surprise of the evening was Spanish rider Cristobal Guerrero who took third spot.
Getting his night of to a sensational start the KTM factory rider placed second behind Blazusiak, making his intentions of a strong end-of-night overall result clear. But just when things were looking good for Cristobal a somewhat disappointing sixth in the second final meant that an overall podium position was anything but guaranteed.
"I'm so happy to come away with third overall today," confirmed a delighted Cristobal. "I didn't have a lot of time to prepare for this event so I wasn't sure what to expect. Having raced the KTM 350 EXC all year this was the first time that I rode the KTM 250 EXC and it took a while to adjust riding to a two-stroke again. My first race was fantastic and I had a great battle for second with Jonny Walker. We swapped places many times, but I was able to finish second right at the end of the race. I've loved racing the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship and I'm excited now to go and race in Poland."
