Just three days before the start of the 2012-2013 FIM World SuperEnduro Championship, we bring you a brief interview with new title challenger: Sherco rider Christophe BRUAND (F).
Christophe BRUAND, you come from Motorcycle Trials, so not many people know too much about you in the world of Enduro... Please introduce yourself!
Christophe BRUAND: "I am 29 years old and I started in Trials at the age of 8. In 2007, I competed in the World Championship with a 10th place and in 2008 I achieved the title of Champion of France - Expert. Since then, I do Show Trials for fairs and organizations!”
This is your first season in SuperEnduro, what attracts you to this sport?
C.B: "I have followed this Championship since its inception. Perhaps even more so since Taddy(BLAZUSIAK), who is a friend of mine began to dominate. I've always been attracted to Enduro and in 2011 I was invited to compete in the Las Vegas Endurocross. Eric PERONNARDoffered to find me a bike and also help me to participate in the race. Unfortunately I didn’t qualify for the main races. This year, Ericasked me to ride at the X-Games where I managed 8th and 9th during qualifying...”
"Marc TEISSIER asked me not to get too distracted…”
You haven’t abandoned your Show Trial shows then?
C.B: "No absolutely not! I am still making show appearances. Since October, I have had no shows so I have focused on specific SuperEnduro training. In January, I will resume the Trial Shows and I'll juggle both for the Grand Prix’s in Barcelona and Tours.”
How did French firm Sherco make the decision to race in the SuperEnduro World Championship?
C.B: "Last year, I was contacted with Scorpa to compete in Trials. Scorpa and Sherco have merged since then plus I was really interested in this championship and they had no racers to represent them. I suggested to Marc TEISSIER (Sherco Director) that I could become a Sherco rider in Enduro Extreme and SuperEnduro races. Marctold me not to get too distracted by too many competitions, so I decided to focus on Indoor SuperEnduro. I got my bike 10 days ago and since then I have worked a lot to get used to it”
What are your goals for this first season against riders like BLAZUSIAK, KNIGHT and all the others?
C.B: "First of all, I want to convey the image of Sherco. Now that I becoming more knowledgeable about this sport, I’ve realised that it is very unpredictable. For example; during the X-Games I started very well compared to other riders but I fell near the end, so I wasn’t able to qualify for the final. Those riders who I had left behind ended up finishing ahead of me! My main goal this season is to reach the final. Physically this Grand Prix in Lodzwill be very difficult. I have just returned from a wrist injury, but I hope to catch riders like Alfredo GOMEZ and Mike HARTMANN!”
