It’s raining stars at the Palau San Jordi!

07/02/13 - 11:29

Two months after the opening round of the Championship in Lodz, Poland, where an injured Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL – KTM) won, the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship will be in Barcelona this Sunday, 10th February at the world famous Palau San Jordi…

For the second event of the 2012/2013 season, the FIM gave the rights for the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship to RPM Company and Real Federacion Motociclista Espanola (RFME). RPM was the creator of Indoor Enduro and has organized events fourteen times before. RPM is also well known for its organization of X-Trial (Indoor Trial), the sport that will be twined with SuperEnduro in Barcelona!

The Palau San Jordi will welcome this second event. This majestic arena, which was used at the 1992 Olympic Games, has already welcomed various events such as the Track & Field World Championship (1995), Swimming (2003) Handball (2013) plus the Basketball European Championship (1997).  It’s also hosted numerous concerts like AC/DC, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Bruce Springsteen. The arena has a capacity of 17000 spectators and was created in 1990 by Arata ISOZAKI.  It’s considered a masterpiece of modern architecture and is located on the famous Montjuic hill.
Barcelona, the second city of Spain is the administrative and economical capital of Catalonia. The Catalan capital is situated on the Mediterranean coast and is crossed by the Llobregatand Besos rivers.  It is well known for its world famous Ramblas, the Barri Gotic (old city district), the CiutadellaPark, MontjuicCastle and also its famous Camp Nou stadium that contains a chapel!

After an enormous demonstration of courage from Taddy BLAZUSIAK in front of his home crowd on 9th December in Poland, will the Polish rider confirm his stranglehold on the Championship in Catalonia? Now fully recovered from his shoulder injury, Taddy will arrive in Barcelona in an arena he knows pretty well and where he will look to get closer to another World Title. He will have to fight Jonny WALKER (GB – KTM), who also stole a heat victory in Lodz, and David KNIGHT (GB – Honda) who looked really comfortable on his 450 CR-F. The two British riders will do everything to try and minimize the lead of the Triple World Champion and to be placed much closer to him before the final round in Tours, France (9th of March). Outsiders will be on the lookout too, like the Husaberg boys; Alfredo GOMEZ (E), Joakim LJUNGGREN (S), Thomas OLDRATI (I)and Hungarian Rookie Kornel NEMETH (KTM). They have the talent to play the spoilers for the Big 3. Mike HARTMANN (D – Husaberg)and Christophe BRUAND (F – Sherco)will look to use the most of their experience and to claim some good positions. Finally, BLAZUSIAK will have to watch out for the prestigious wildcards that will be present on Sunday. EWC regulars that are appearing include Ivan CERVANTES (E – KTM), Antoine MEO (F – KTM), Matti SEISTOLA (SF – HVA), Lorenzo SANTOLINO (E – HVA) and Mario ROMAN (E – Husaberg).
These riders will come to enjoy the spectacular and technical track at Barcelona and they don’t intend to just make up the numbers! This will add more spice to a Premier class that is already exciting and where a superb performance from CERVANTES or MEO can’t be excluded!

Finally, in the Junior class, current surprising leader Pawel SZYMKOWSKI (PL – KTM) will look to confirm his excellent results after the first round, but he will also have to compete with the two favourites, Danny MCCANNEY (GB – Gas Gas) and Giacomo REDONDI (I – KTM)that are both eager for revenge in the Palau San Jordi. Fourth in Lodz, Swedish rider Johan EDLUND (Husaberg) will have to ride harder just like Magnus THOR (S – KTM) and Tim APOLLE (D – Husaberg). We can also enthusiastically look forward to participation in the under 23 class of two Chilean riders, Diego ROJAS (Gas Gas) and Esteban LANZ (Gas Gas).

The riders of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship invite you to some suspense, exciting races, and an enormous show that’s simply raining stars, on Sunday, 10th February, in the Palau San Jordi of Barcelona, Spain, from 17.00 onwards!
