Line-up for the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship

08/02/13 - 11:49

The starting field for the 2013 NIGHT of the JUMPs tour once again leaves nothing to be desired. Dany Torres, who won the Red Bull X-Fighters in 2011 and also finished on the podium in the X Games, has signed up for the entire season. Now aiming for the world championship title, the Spanish rider will be premiering tricks such as his One-Hand Seatgrab Indy Flip.

And with reigning world champion Remi Bizouard, last year’s runner-up Libor Podmol, David Rinaldo and Maikel Melero also on the bill, the organisers have recruited the best riders from last season. Fans can therefore look forward to a feast of 360s, Lazyboy Flips, Doublegrab Backflips, Ruler and Cliffhanger Flips. Three-time German national champion and fifth in the 2012 World Championship Hannes Ackermann has also been invited to contest the complete NIGHT of the JUMPs season. With Airplanes and Hart Attack Flips, he will be aiming for regular podium appearances and automatic qualification for the 2014 tour.

Czech Red Bull FMX ‘Wonderboy’ Petr Pilat is also set to astonish once more with his backflip repertoire. Spain’s ‘El Loco’ Miralles has won a NIGHT of the JUMPs event before and is also one of the biggest crowd pleasers. The Australian duo of Josh Sheehan and Clinton Moore will want to have a say in the outcome of the championship. Both will join the World Championship in the second half of the season, while the immensely stylish Frenchman Brice Izzo’s main contribution will be in the form of miniflips. And on each occasion, two wildcard riders from the host countries will make up the numbers.

NIGHT of the JUMPs had its premiere in 2001 at the Arena Riesa. During the intervening twelve years, it has developed from a ‘sportainment’ tour into the sporting benchmark for everything FMX. It is only at NIGHT of the JUMPs that world and European champions are crowned. This is where the heroes of freestyle motocross first rocket to worldwide fame and write their names in the record books of the sport. There is one thing we can be sure of – the 2013 NIGHT of the JUMPs will see new legends born. And it will be the spectators at the ringside who get to see the superstars of tomorrow in close-up, because no other motorsport series is quite as intimate in its format as NIGHT of the JUMPs. The entire series will also feature in TV highlights and can be followed as live stream and on-demand via
