SPECIAL STAGE FIAMBALA – COPIAPO CANCELLED DUE TO BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS
After two days, the news concerning the weather conditions over Paso San Francisco were bad: snow and temperatures below zero on top of the Andes, while the heat wave bordered 45 ° on the skirts… Yesterday, the Chilean authorities closed the summit of the mountain that crosses Argentina to Chile because the rain and the snow made this soil impossible to drive on.
At 9 p.m., Etienne Lavigne and David Castera announced to competitors that they will leave the bivouac starting at 8 a.m. to take a different itinerary than the one planned after the border, 200 kilometers longer. The logistic engaged was also blocked, which insured that the decision taken was wise. This morning, the sun shined over the snow that covered the volcano called Incahuasi, at the moment competitors crossed the frontier.
