Camelia crowns her Dakar with the 9th position overall!

16/01/12 - 08:54

The Dakar 2012 was one of the hardest editions of the classic rally raid race in South America. Camelia Liparoti completes more than 8 000 kilometers and arrives to Lima in the 9th position overall.

“It was a very demanding Dakar,” says the rider while she waits to go through the final podium in located in the Plaza de Armas of Lima. “I made it! With all its difficulties I made it with my Yamaha quad until the finish line!” tells Camelia full of happiness, as she is one of the 12 quads of the 33 that took the start in Mar del Plata fifteen days ago.

The big discovery of this edition was the inclusion of Peru in the race. “The ground seems like Africa, like Mauritania with its giant dunes. Also the fesh-fesh… During the first stage in Peru I would love to do better but with the deep fesh-fesh… I lost two hours to get out of it!” Explains the rider that I not ready to forget the episode.

But for this courageous woman, the Dakar went very fast. “I´m tired, but at the same time the race was so fast that I doesn´t even feel like it´s over! The two race weeks just flied away!” tells Camelia in Lima.

“I am satisfied of my result, but without the fesh-fesh problem in Peru´s first stage and without the time penalty taken when I changed the engine for precaution in the rest day I could have been higher in the standings… I will do better in 2013!” Assures the only lady in quad in the Dakar Argentina –Chile-Peru 2012.
