Joonas Kylmäkorpi is the first rider from Finland, who became a FIM World Long Track Champion. 8 Points and 13th position in Final 6 at Marianske Lazne/CZ was good enough to secure his overall lead and win the World Championship with 140 points in front of Dutch rider (French licence holder) Theo Pijper (120 points) and German Richard Speiser (103 Points).
Pijper finished the meeting 8th with 12 points, although he was injured with a broken finger by a stone clashed his hand during practise. Nevertheless Pijper ist he first ever Dutch rider finishing Runner-up in World Track Racing Championship.
The Final Heat and Marianske Lazne’s meeting was won by German Stephan Katt (27 points) in front of British Andrew Appleton (24 points) and the best rider in the qualification races, German Herbert Rudolph (27 points).
The days runner-up Andy Appleton missed the FIM World Championship rostrum by a single point (102 points).
Joonas Kylmäkorpi (30), coming from Vaasa, now living in Sweden, rides Longtrack since 12 years and, after beeing Vice FIM World Champion in 2006 and 2007 , he now reached the goal of his career. He is a professional Speedway rider with commitments in Poland, England, Sweden and Denmark. „Today I concentrated only on my first two heats, where I needed some points for he title. After my brain was quit empty and I could not really concentrate on my race anymore. But we already prepare our new bikes with my tuner Marcel Gerhard for he 2011 season. Sure I want to defend the title and I know I can do even better than I did this year“, promised the smart Finnish rider.
