The 1500 spectators in Norway did get a great moment when Theo Pijper secured the final coming out of the last turn.
2011 FIM Long Track World Championship Final 2 was hosted by Riska Motorsykkelklubb at Forus Travbane in Norway.
The final ended up as an exciting match between the World Champion Joonas Kylmäkorpi and Theo Pijper. The two riders came side by side through the last turn, but the Dutch rider preserved larger speed towards the finish line and crossed first. “Fantastic to finish as I did in this final and it is a great satisfaction to win this event. Racing at such a well prepared track is a pleasure” says Theo to a local news paper.
Joonas Kylmäkorpi performed very well in the heats leading towards the final, but a weak start made him fight very hard through the final. Joonas Kylmäkorpi got an individual score of 29 points during the event and Theo Pijper and Richard Speiser 20 points each.
The results brings Joonas Kylmäkorpi into the lead of the 2011 FIM Long Track World Championship with 44 points, Stephan Katt holds second position with 42 points, with Richard Speiser in third place with 41 points.
Forus Travbane is a race track for horses used many times for speedway / Long Track races previously. However there was more than 20 years when such events were not allowed. Riska Motorsykkelklubb have organized Long Track races the last 4 years and made a step up hosting a FIM Long Track World Championship Final this year. The riders were very happy with the 1000 meter track as is very well prepared and allows high speed races.
The Jury President (Wolfgang Glas) was very satisfied with good race, well prepared organizer, and no injuries and congratulated the organizer and the Norwegian Federation (NMF).
