Nicholls fit for the challenge

10/03/09 - 08:22

Fans can expect a slimline version of Scott Nicholls to contest the 2009 FIM Speedway World Championship Grand Prix Series.

The 30-year-old Suffolk-born racer has shed almost a stone after working hard in the gym and sticking to a strict diet over the winter.

Reigning British champion Nicholls is also keen to get his bikes in optimum shape, and has spent time in Italy testing machinery with former Great Britain ace Kelvin Tatum.

Nicholls has elected to scale back his league racing commitments this year in a bid to make a bigger impact on the World Championship.

But, despite taking a season-long break from the Elite League, he has confirmed he will take part in several UK season-opening testimonial meetings.

Nicholls has now agreed to ride in Tom P Madsen's benefit event at King's Lynn on March 20, and the Dane said: "To be able to include Scott is a big boost. It is really the icing on the cake."
