Cal Crutchlow kept his bid for the FIM Supersport World Championship on course by taking pole position for the race at the Nurburgring in Germany.
The Yamaha World Supersport rider, who leads the championship points standings, set a best qualifying time of one minute 57.866 seconds.
Second fastest was former champion Kenan Sofuoglu on the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda, with Crutchlow's title rival Eugene Laverty third quickest on the Parkalgar Honda.
Triumph's Garry McCoy set the fourth best time ahead of Michele Pirro (Yamaha), Katsuaki Fujiwara (Kawasaki) and Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki).
Triumph's Gianluca Nannelli, Massimo Roccoli (Honda) and Andrew Pitt (Honda) completed the top 10.
