Sanz – The Perfect Year

18/09/11 - 10:30

Twenty-five year old Laia Sanz – Repsol Montesa yesterday added the 2011 Women’s FIM Trials des Nations title to the individual 2011 FIM Women’s Trial World Championship she had already won last month to complete what she described as ‘the perfect year’.

Whilst this would be more than most riders could ever dream of achieving in one season, Sanz also won the best female rider in the notoriously tough Dakar Rally at her first attempt before her current Trial campaign had even got under way.

Speaking after her latest success in Tolmezzo, Italy – Laia said. “It feels great to win again with Sandra (Gomez) and Mireia (Conde), as last year it was a tough fight, but this year it was even harder. When I took the penalty in the third section I thought we had lost the chance to win as Great Britain were riding very well. Anyway Sandra and Mireia made a really great second lap so we could win for the second year in a row. To win the TDN, the Women’s title for an eleventh time and to win my class in the Dakar Rally on my debut means it has been the perfect year for me. Now I hope I can end the season with a good result at the French World enduro.”
