Since 1994 the headquarters of the FIM has been situated in the commune of Mies, near the shores of Lake Geneva. The original building was built in the form of two wheels, to replicate that of a motorcycle, and was a popular iconic structure of the picturesque area. In 2007 an extension of this building was proposed to allow the FIM to accommodate more staff and provide a higher level of service, with more initiatives and projects centralizing from within the FIM’s control center. The extension will house meeting rooms and conference facilities for seminars, board and commission gatherings, technical sessions and educational seminars. Modular space and also open, transparent office stations will be present throughout the whole building. The new design will now take on the shape of a large single wheel and will have strong presence on the existing site. The building will be have a curved environmentally friendly façade, with a total surface area of nearly 1700m2. The foyer of the building will house iconic motorcycling memorabilia from the FIM six disciplines and a central spiral staircase will be a strong feature between the two floors. After less than 17 months of construction works, the new headquarter was officially handed over to the FIM on 17 September 2015. The FIM staff definitively moved to the new House of Motorcycling on 22 September 2015.
